Is It Time For An Oil Change?
Fat is often misunderstood.
Does eating fat make you fat? Not necessarily. In fact, large survey studies show a divergent trend. Fat intake among Americans is decreasing while obesity is increasing! (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9217594).
Does this mean that we shouldn’t worry about dietary fat? Of course not!
Fat is essential to good health. It is a source of energy. It provides essential fatty acids (necessary for growth development and cell functions). It transports fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E and K), and maintains proper nerve and brain function as well as healthy skin! Dietary fat should comprise approximately 20-35% of total daily calories. Because not all fats are created equal, it is also crucial to select healthy fats.
