At Fitness Advantage we know improving health and fitness adds zest and vitality to life!  We have a holistic philosophy.  We believe that true health encompasses mind and body. We strive to help each individual no matter where they are in their personal journey of health and fitness, to find balance for a sound mind and a healthy body.  This is why we are taking another step forward to be able to expand our services and offer classes that focus not only on posture, flexibility, and body alignment, but also breathing, mindfulness, and meditation for stress relief. Consistent with our long history of premium services delivered with care, Fitness Advantage group classes will offer quality, client-centered instruction in a beautiful restorative environment.  Classes are limited in size to allow each participant to have a more personal learning experience.  We are excited to be offering the following classes:

 

YOGA

INTRODUCTION

Our experienced yoga instructors are trained and educated in offering classes that will benefit each participant from the novice to the elite.  To be able to serve the wide ranging needs of participants, our class formats will span from the soothing and relaxing to the invigorating and challenging.   For those who are interested in a personalized experience, Fitness Advantage also offers private yoga sessions.

BENEFITS

Yoga is a physical exercise with a spiritual and meditative core. This practice helps the individual unify his/her body, mind, and heart.  Yoga helps to restore the body’s natural alignment.  Regular practice leads to greater flexibility, more fluid mobility, improved posture, better balance as well as enhanced muscle tone and core strength.  Practitioners enjoy not only these physical benefits, but also mental and spiritual ones such as an increased sense of wellness, energy and vitality, an improved ability to handle stress, as well as decreased anxiety and depression. Many report a restored sense of peace.

OUR CLASSES:

Yoga Therapy- Our yoga therapy class is perfect novices who wish to begin their practice but feel intimidated.  It is also a great fit for those with orthopedic limitations who will benefit from the gentle flexibility work.  With an emphasis on breathing, this class is designed to leave you feeling relaxed and refreshed.  A guided meditation concludes each session.

Restorative Yoga- This gentle practice restores mind, body and soul.  Melting into each  restorative posture participants passively dissipate physical and mental stress for a truly renewing experience.

Power Yoga Flow- This dynamic class offers participants a challenging and vigorous physical workout. The flow of Asanas joins together the breath and movement through a series of postures.  Regular practice increases muscle tone as well as fluidity of movement.

 

BARRE

INTRODUCTION

Improving overall functional fitness and health comes from a variety of practices. Gaining a better ability to understand the importance of the body’s connections plays a vital role in this class. Barre’s focus on core strength, body alignment, and the concept that anyone can be successful with the practice is why Fitness Advantage is proud to include Barre Group Fitness.

BENEFITS

Originally designed by German ballet dancer, Lotte Berk, Barre has been a practiced conditioning routine since 1959 and has since been a concrete workout method since. Barre is unique, in that it is performed using a series of one inch increment movements or isometric movements rather than the traditional compound movements (ex: squats, shoulder presses etc.). These tiny movements don’t require the muscle length to change, which leads to the ability to hold a posture and benefit from continuously engaging the muscle. Isometric movements help isolate specific muscles, target slow-twitch muscles to help increase endurance, and help strengthen muscles without straining tendons or ligaments, so there’s less risk of injury. It is designed for anyone to be able to do, regardless of fitness level, flexibility, or dance experience.

 

Barre includes a mat-based warm-up, followed by a series of arm exercises, a lower-body section targeting thighs and glutes at the barre, and finishing with a series of core-focused moves at the bar or mat.  Barre can be performed using bodyweight only, or it can include light hand weights, resistance bands, or a soft exercise ball. These classes will also be offered with a limited class size in order to allow for a more personal and enjoyable learning experience.

 

BALLROOM

INTRODUCTION

Exercise has many forms and Fitness Advantage is fully aware of this. But exercise doesn’t just apply to the body, it also applies to the mind. The body helps the mind work and the mind takes care of the body.

There is now a high level of acceptance for ballroom dancing. People of all ages and walks of life, are taking an interest in ballroom dance and learning something new.  Dancing benefits the mind, body, and soul while also challenging the cardiovascular system, uses all your major muscle groups, encourages good posture and alignment, and strengthens the core. It results in gains in flexibility, agility, and grace, as well as improvement in your mental health and has also been proven to help prevent Alzheimer’s disease. Aside from the physical benefits, ballroom dance provides the chance to meet new people and provides a night out of fun. It spurs creativity and motivation, improves overall energy, increases relaxation and reduces stress, while also building confidence.

Fitness Advantage holds the health of mind and body in the highest regard and will now be offering Ballroom Dance classes to encourage people of all skill levels to try a new and creative outlet to improving their overall health.  No previous dance experience is needed to enjoy this new program.
